Miles College President French Named Alternate Negotiator

Dr. George T. French, Jr., president of Miles College, has been named by the U.S. Department of Education to be the alternate negotiator for minority serving institutions in the upcoming rulemaking on Parent PLUS loans.

With Dr. David Swinton as the primary negotiator and Dr. French as the alternate negotiator at the table, we have an extraordinary team representing UNCF member institutions and, indeed, all HBCUs.

Congratulations Dr. French!

Passing of Rev. Dr. Welborn Preston, Jr.

I regret to have to inform all of you that our beloved brother in Christ and God's faithful servant, the Rev. Dr. Welborn A. Preston, Jr., made his transition from labor to reward this evening after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. We thank God for his faithfulness and diligence even in the midst of all the adversity of his illness. We also thank God for his devoted wife, the Rev. Aretha Preston, who has been a pillar of strength as she faithfully balanced her pastoral and ministerial duties with being a loving helpmate and caregiver to her husband. Please lift up Rev. Aretha Preston and all of the members of the Preston family in prayer. Psalm 46:1 reminds us that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." We are trusting the Lord to keep this family in His loving care!

Yours in Christ,

Presiding Elder Kevin Agee
